KYA DESIGNS SUPPORTS BONO’S “ONE” CAMPAIGN

Help Eradicate Poverty and Empower Communities by supporting Kya and “One”

July 12, 2007, Los Angeles, CA.

The sophisticated and distinguished African brand, Kya Designs, based in California, has launched several new additions to its ever popular contemporary home décor art lines to help eradicate poverty in Africa. After reading Vanity Fair’s recent editions on Africa, Native South African and Kya Designs Owner Gail Thalmann, has joined forces with musician Bono’s One Campaign to help starving communities in Africa.

“As a mother, to see 16,000 children die because they don’t have enough food to eat on a daily basis is appalling. If we can empower their parents to provide for their families we can help eradicate poverty, disease and death in Africa. One by One we can all help,” says Thalmann. Three percent of all Kya sales will be donated to the One Campaign and all buyers will receive the popular and trendy One bracelet for all purchases in excess of $100, symbolizing their support to stamp out poverty in Africa.

Kya Designs focus is to empower local artisans in Africa to support themselves and their communities by allowing them the means to share the profound and exquisite beauty of Africa, as seen and passionately expressed through their beautiful artwork. Each unique piece is hand crafted using materials, symbols and patterns specific to the artist. This deeply personal art helps keep their tradition alive and helps prove economic stability for artisans and communities. The artists possess the unique ability to utilize products from their natural environment to create exquisite pieces of art, ever popular in the local US market.

Kya Designs continuously brings new product to market each season, and this season is no exception. The winter range, which will be displayed at shows in Las Vegas and Los Angeles, includes the gorgeous, sexy “Feather Me” range of mohair and ostrich scarves, capes, shawls, sampots and throws. This sophisticated line provides glamour and style to any outfit, notwithstanding the three percent of proceeds which will be donated to the One Campaign. The newly launched decorative and contemporary range of hand blown glass bowls, all made in the beautiful mountains of Swaziland, empowers over 700 rural Swazi women through the creation of home-based work, will also be available for purchase at the shows. These women also produce the classy, yet casual range of ceramic woven bowls, also a recent addition to the range; and styles range from Zebra to “Ethnic.”

A summer launch of new products will be available in January 2008 at the California Gift Show.
